Alpha Blondy, the eldest of nine children, was born Seydou Kone in Dimbokro in the Ivory Coast in 1953. He sings in his native Dioula, French, English, Arabic and Hebrew. His CD "Merci" won a grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2003. In 2005 he was named the United Nations Ambassador of Peace for Cote D'Ivoire. He is a champion for conscious reggae lyrics aimed at uplifting the world's masses. I captured him here at a performance in New York on one of his many world tours.
